Solo Birthday

Solo Birthdays feel weird when don’t have plans.

People you know expect you to throw a party and get crazy, but for some sometimes just feel like having a chill day
away from the stress of organizing a party and mass social interactions.

If you plan to unplug at this year’s birthday or for some reason you find yourself in such a situation,
here are some thoughts and ideas that you could use to entertain yourself.

A different way

Today is my very special day and I’m here doing my yearly solo routine,
so I thought why not share it? Might help others in the same situation and give them some solace and inspiration,
because it’s not bad as you’d think.

As many who are born in August may know, pretty much everyone is on holiday in this period for Ferragosto in Italy.
I think that’s the main contributor to my way of celebrating growing up, that and having very busy Asian parents.

Most people love to throw birthday parties, but I always felt dread when it came to organizing big events and I don’t like the social pressure of forcing people to buy you gifts.

I think if someone really wants to get you something, it should come spontaneously and not peer pressure.

So why not dedicate a day to yourself and all those activities that you meant to do, but life was just against it?

Unplugging from the world

For me, birthdays are a perfect occasion to unplug from our noisy world and doing some introspection.

As a first step, I usually just leave the phone on the side and do not check social media until the evening,
where I would replay all the birthday wishes on the various platforms.

Today is all about YOU.

The morning is the perfect time to reflect and do a quick recap on your life and goals.

Your brain is at full capacity, so you can tackle those things that you’ve been putting of for a while.

For instance, in my case, one of my main points was about checking my website and write a new blog post.
I’ve been so busy at the last job that I totally forgot about this passion project and how great it feels to put your thoughts on paper, so to speak.

I was so ashamed of not writing for so long and ironically that kept me from writing earlier,
what an irrational creature people are eheh.

I think everyone has one of those unchecked mental todos, so what’s yours?

A great way to think about it is to take a long walk in nature just listening to mother nature or if the weather can’t give you a break a long shower will do too.

Spoiling yourself

I like to keep the rest of the day more lighthearted and relaxed.
it’s your Bday, after all, so let’s do something nice.

It’s the best time to do something that you really like or catch up with your favorite show with a glass of your favorite wine.

For me, my top choice is having a nice meal. As my Italian high school economics teacher used to say:

“in life, there are 2 fundamental pleasures: food and sex. If I can’t have sex, let me at least have good food”

Still makes me giggle to this day lol

In the end, I think it’s a pretty nice and productive way to spend the day.
You can party with your friends another time, and good friends are always up for that.

Time is precious and we don’t nearly spend enough to get to know our true self,
so let today be a day of self-discovery.
